semester #2 Activities & Ideas for each section... Bible: Read the passage of scripture every day or just the first day. The link includes a listening option so students can listen and read along. Discuss the Reading: Students and parents can ask their own simple comprehension questions. Discussion Questions: There are usually 3 or 4 discussion questions; just do 1 per day. Verse of the Week: This verse will be used all week for spelling, grammar & writing. Discuss the Verse: Every day pull out 1 fact from the verse and turn it into a "thank you" or a "help me" prayer. Handwriting: Use the Verse of the Week for daily handwriting practice (cursive or printing) by breaking the verse into sections. They can write the whole thing every day if they want to, but don't overwhelm them. For very young writers, the teacher will write a different word from the verse each day for the little one to copy. Spelling: A list of words from the reading or the verse will be given. Here are some spelling activities to try so they don't have to do the same thing every day. 1. Write each word 3 times 2. Choose 3 words to write in a sentence (choose a different 3 another day) 3. Write each word in block letters with markers 4. Write each word backwards 5. Write each word in code: If they draw a box or a squiggle to represent a letter, make sure that letter is always represented by that icon in all the words of the list. Grammar: The grammar links are intended to be little, short lessons. There's no need to click all the links every day. The items will be repeated frequently throughout the semester. If the link is for a worksheet, it doesn't have to be printed out but rather an oral discussion or written in their notebooks. Writing: There are a few writing prompts for the week. Let them write their ideas in word or pictures first and then help them form proper sentences. Never worry about spelling or structure on a first draft or their ideas will cease to flow! Written work should always be shared! History: Science: Art & Music: Foreign Language: Math: Play Outside Today! |
