Week #12 Jonah
Read the book of Jonah this week - one chapter per day. (You can read some of the story here.)
Use the Verse of the Week for Bible, Handwriting, Spelling & Grammar
Verse of the Week: Jonah 2:9 But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the Lord alone.

Why is Jonah praising God?
Why is Jonah going to fulfill his promises to God?
What does salvation mean?
What lesson did Jonah learn?
Handwriting:
Write the first sentence one day and the second sentence the next and repeat.
Spelling: songs, vows, sacrifices, alone, offer
Grammar:
Plural Nouns end in “s.” Find the plural nouns in the verse. (sacrifices, songs, vows)
Verbs are action words. Find a verb in the verse (offer).
Subjects tell who a sentence is about and verbs make up the second part of a sentence (the predicate part) and tells what the subject is doing. Some verbs have helpers like will + offer go together to form the predicate of the first sentence. Do you see another helping verb in that sentence? (will + fulfill) Discover more about Helping Verbs.
A Contraction is a shortcut for making two words into one, and they are can be used with helping verbs. In the first sentence of the focus verse we see I and will. A faster way to write that is to use the contraction I’ll.
Writing:
Write a story about someone who was disobedient.
Retell the story of Jonah.
Write about what it would feel like to be isolated like Jonah was inside the big fish.
Science:
To integrate Science this week, think about Jonah being thrown into the sea! Investigate the underwater world this week. Click on here for articles on Sea Animals.

History:
To integrate History this week, think about Jonah as a Missionary. Look up the definition of a missionary and study about recent brave and faithful missionaries.
