Hebrews 1:1-2
Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.
He has spoken to us through his Son... Everything Jesus said and did was recorded for me! God is talking to me. All of God’s thoughts and actions are presented clearly to us through the life of Jesus. I don’t quite get how that happened our how that all works. He is God; he can do anything he wants! And he wanted to make sure a human would understand incredibly spiritual, powerful, amazing things, so he became human because human is something humans can understand, comprehend, accept, and imitate.
Sounds kind of science fiction-y. Humans (vs. what - aliens?). Heaven (is that outer space?). But it’s not; God is just really high tech. He preserved his Word for us in writing before the printing press was ever invented. And his Word has been shared and repeated long before texting and re-tweeting.
Jesus dwelling with us was definitely noteworthy and therefore recorded in detail 4 different ways through Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and then expounded upon in great depth in the other 23 books of the New Testament. God wanted to make sure we could understand and remember what Jesus said and did. Can you imagine if Jesus came to earth like Thor did from Asgard in the movie? I couldn’t imitate something like that so completely beyond my understanding and capabilities. But Jesus is a person!
Jesus tells his disciples, “I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done for you.” (John 13:15) The things Jesus did for others are for me to copy. The things he said are for me to remember. And God made certain for this to be possible in spite of the dark ages, the pre-industrial era, and whatever obstacles present themselves over the last two thousand years. Do you know how?
Because God is eternal, immortal, invisible...(and wise), according to 1 Timothy 1:17, and he is also, in my opinion, technologically advanced!
Dear God,
Thank you for preserving your Word. Thank you that access to Jesus is so freely available to me where I live. Thank you that I can be just like him because he didn’t come down as God, but as a person just like I am a person. Thank you for taking something so eternal, immortal, invisible, and wise and making it something I can understand, imitate, and enjoy. I love you so much for thinking of me and my needs many, many years ago when all this was going on. Thank you so much! I love you and praise you in the name of Jesus, amen.
