God Brings it Back Around
Colossians 4:6
Everything you say should be kind and well thought out so that you know how to answer everyone.
Everything you say should be kind...
That’s easier than it sounds when I remember Proverbs 15:1. A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. It actually requires less energy to simply respond to someone rather than to respond plus add all the flare of raised eyebrows, elevated voice, and huffing. A response intended to ruffle someone’s feathers in actuality ruffles my own feathers and isn’t kind. Even if my response needs to be corrective, it’s more constructive if it’s kind.
Everything you say should be well thought out...
There’s a big difference between making decisions about stuff as you read God’s Word versus reading God’s Word in order to try and make it fit with decisions you’ve already made. It is very beneficial to take time to read God’s Word every day and let how God thinks about stuff build up in my heart. This way my life decisions are based on real truth and not arbitrary ideas. James 3:17-18 describes the wisdom we gain from God.
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness. It also sounds like a well thought out position based on God’s wisdom is also kind. I like how God always brings a point back around!
Dear God,
Help my words today to be based on your wisdom and delivered in kindness. Thank you for your Word to equip me and your Holy Spirit to help me. I love you so much and thank you for all you’ve done and ask you to help me in Jesus’ name, amen.
