Good Doctor Good Teacher
Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.
People go to doctors to find out what’s wrong with them take classes from professors who give exams to find out what their students know. God does both for us. God knows what’s wrong with me because he can see my heart, my inmost thoughts & desires. His prescription for living, found in his Word, is the antidote for my anxieties. And for my benefit, he is also able to point out, through his Word and Holy Spirit, when I’m not living as he prescribes. He is a Good Doctor and a Good Teacher.
He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.” (Exodus 15:26)
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit--he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. (John 14:26)
And God, not only gave us his Word and Holy Spirit, but he also gave us his Son, Jesus, who is the one size fits all solution for all of my anxieties and sin!
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
Dear God,
Thank you for curing me and teaching me. Thank you that my life is not based on my circumstances but on how you show me to live in any circumstance. Your prescription for life doesn’t change, and I am thankful for your Word and for your Holy Spirit continually teaching me and guiding me & showing me what to do and say today. I love you. You really are my Great Physician in every sense. And you are my Good Teacher, for you guide me and do not shame me. You are kind and gentle in your instruction and I love you so much and pray in your Son’s name, amen.
