1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.
Yesterday at church Rob was teaching about godly living in a godless culture from the book of Daniel. He pointed out from chapter three, the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refusing to worship a giant golden statue, that the godless culture always kills the godly. And this sure is true in our day and age too! It’s astonishing how society demonizes morality these days, but they do!
But Rob’s encouragement was for us to “live in the manner were made for, not for the culture we’re in.” I like that.
I was made for fellowship with God and freedom in Christ Jesus. That simply means that God wants to be with me and Jesus made it possible. So, “I do not belong to myself,” and I do not belong to this culture in which I live. I belong to God, “so (I) must honor God with” all that I am and all that I have.
And I can totally count on my culture disapproving of that!
Dear God,
Like Rob prayed for our church yesterday, I pray for great energy for you and great thoughts of you. I pray for great boldness for you and great contentment in you as well. I am so glad Jesus made a way for me to belong to you like you’ve intended for me. I’m glad I belong to you. Help me to honor you with all that I am and all that I have been give. I love you and praise you, in Jesus’ name I pray to you, amen.
