JOY in the New Year
1 Peter 1:18-19 NLT
For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.
Someone important and famous said to write down what is most important to you so you’ll know how to spend your time and energy, and you won’t be an indecisive person. For those of us who know Jesus, he is the most important to us. Remembering every day that I am not my own; I belong to Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:19) actually affects my life and informs my decision making.
No matter what happens, good or bad, Jesus is my source of strength and my only comfort. I enjoy my family, but my JOY comes from Jesus. I enjoy good health, but Jesus is the one sustaining my life. I enjoy shopping with the gift cards I just got for Christmas, but I’m not fulfilled by a new wardrobe that will one day no longer fit and go out of style pretty soon.
The kindest thing I can do in 2019 is pray the JOY of Jesus over the people I meet and love.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you that I am not my own, I am not left to my own resources for health, comfort, fulfillment and joy. I belong to YOU; and you freely give me these things through your kindness, forgiveness, mercy, grace and love. I love belonging to you. You really got me. Thank you so much! Amen.
