Let this happen to me as you say!
Luke 1:38
Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.
Jesus’ mother, Mary, a regular person, offers the most wonderful response to God’s supernatural prospect for her life, and I would like to have Mary’s response to God’s Word in my own life too! Mary said, “I am the servant of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!” Then the angel went away. (Luke 1:38)
When God says to tell our children about his Ways so we will see them grow to be as vigorous young olive trees, I want to do that because I hope that happens just like he says. Olive trees are the oldest of trees. Telling our children about God promotes eternal life in their lives. I want all my kids in heaven with me! (See Psalm 128:1-3) Let this happen to me as you say!
Ephesians 6:2-3 has another promise that sounds good to me: “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” I remember knowing this verse when I was young, and I certainly hoped it was true. “I am the servant of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!”
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. I will do it, I hope it’s true. “I am the servant of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!”
Matthew 6:33 offers another promise I want to follow because I hope it’s true. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. I want everything I need to be given to me without me having to worry or scramble, so I will make seeking God’s will my highest priority. “I am the servant of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!”
And I love this one from Matthew 11:28-30. Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light. I want rest and un-burdensome burdens. I will come to him especially with my troubles so that I can receive this from him. “I am the servant of the Lord. Let this happen to me as you say!”
I could go on; there is so much more! I really admire Mary’s response to her interaction with God, and I want my responses to God’s interactions with me through his Word to be just like hers.
Dear God,
Thank you that what you say is true and, on top of that, GOOD! I am your servant. I will do what you say to do so your promises can be revealed in my life just like you say. I love you and I trust you and I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
