Off they go!
Proverbs 22:6
Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

This scripture doesn’t only mean that a good foundation gives the wandering heart something to turn back to someday. It means that teaching children about righteousness, trusting God, and godly character while they’re in our care will help them every single day of their life.

We don’t “start children off on the way they should go” and then watch them live some kind of wild, crazy life and relieve ourselves by thinking, “Oh, don’t worry in about 20 years they’ll come back to Jesus.” No. We teach our children about God so that they will ALWAYS follow him even into ripe, old agedness.

We have two out of our four kids adulting now. They are in college and see and hear things that weren’t in our home bubble. Off they go into the real world whether mom is ready for it or not, right? But off they go with Jesus. I trust that God’s promises are true. And Proverbs 22:6 is a wonderful promise. My beautiful, fascinating people have been discipled properly. They know Jesus for themselves and HE is with them everyday of their lives even into their old age.

Dear God,
You know what’s inside this mom's anxious heart. Thankfully, worrying about my kids’ salvation isn’t one of them. I thank you that when things go well they thank you, thank you that when they mess up they go to you, and thank you that I have seen them trust you all on their own without my help at all. Thank you for being in our home with us all these years so that they take you freely with them when they are not here. I love you and I love your promises, and I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
