Stuff of Earth
Matthew 6:21
Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Jesus cautions us about materialism and how it conflicts with our loyalty to God.
Songwriter David Mullins said it like this...
“Stuff of earth competes for the allegiance I owe only to the Giver of all good things...”
I don’t want my “stuff of earth” to compete with the attention I not only owe to God but also desire to give to him.
I love my family, I love my job, I love a fat savings account, I love travel, I love to be right all the time, I love to look good, I love to put an opponent in their proper place... stuff of earth
I wish to consume more of God’s ways...
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT
I wish to know more of God’s will...
The instructions of the Lord are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Psalm 19:7-8 NLT
I wish to explore more of his promises...
And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. 2 Peter 1:4 NLT
May my treasures be the ways, will and promises of God.
Dear God,
I don’t want anything in my heart competing to take my attention off of your ways, will, and promises. Everything about you is good and perfect for thinking about and doing. Be big in my heart, big in my mind, and big in my actions & words today. I love you so much and pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
