Proverbs 29:25 “That’s Not Good”
Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.
Right now our country is in a battle with itself. The government shutdown is in reaction to a vast, enormous, gigantic difference of opinions. What I think is interesting is that one party believes that a compromise consists solely of the other side just giving in. That is not exercising compromise by any form of the definition of the word. No one would normally think so.
The fact that reason and discussion aren’t being allowed at all to enter in to our so called democratic practices proves to me that this isn’t just a difference of opinion, this isn’t just one stubborn prideful party trying to save face, this isn’t the absence of all logic and common sense...
This is a spiritual battle being fought by our leaders right now, and they are fighting spiritual things with human understanding.
1 Corinthians 2:14-16
But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
There’s a bunch of posts on Facebook this morning about how awful the shutdown is and that the people responsible should just give in. Instead, why doesn’t the other party demand their leaders to submit?
It’s because we have a real Enemy.
Philippians 2:2
You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil--the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.
For people who still live in sin, currently living in sin, they obey the devil - the commander of the powers of the unseen world, perhaps even unaware they are doing it. That’s why their “logic” and ideas make no darn sense at all. We are talking about spiritual matters and only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.
This is why I put my hope in NO human authority. That’s why God clearly warns that fearing people is a dangerous trap. It’s a dangerous trap because of the mess they’ll lead me into since they can’t discern what is really going on at all. They are being played by the Enemy, absolute suckers doing his bidding. And that’s not good.
But trusting the Lord means safety. Thank God, He is bigger and more powerful than any congressman, senator, or president. And God protects me everyday in spite of those guys.
Dear God,
Help me not put my hope and trust in people who only have their own human understanding by which to live. They are not helpful, they are harmful and detrimental to society. Thank you for your protection in the midst of the real, dark, spiritual chaos of today. And I pray that the plans of the ungodly will fail. I pray in your Son’s name, amen.
